In our ongoing effort to provide our members with year-round opportunities to participate in amateur team sports competition, Capital Area Team Sports operates at both the team and league levels in several amateur sports.

BASKETBALL

In its third year in 2007-08, our Carolina Lightning men's basketball team has already distinguished itself in the Raleigh area, capturing a league championship in the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department's basketball program in only its second year.

BOWLING

What will be our newest adult sports program will debut in the winter of 2008 with the launch of our own weeknight bowling league.  Tentatively and jokingly named Major League Bowling, this mixed short-season league is slated to debut sometime in December 2008.  Look for more information on "MLB" sometime this summer.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Launched in 2002 as a means for our men's softball players to stay active during off-seasons, our Independent Flag Football League quickly took on a life of its own, dwarfing our other programs in terms of participation.  Debuting with six teams, the Spring 2008 IFFL season boasts 15 teams competing for a berth in the league's championship event, Grand Bowl XIII.  We also periodically stage flag football tournaments for local teams such as our Triangle Kickoff Classic, giving others the opportunity to get a taste of our unique 5-on-5 style of contact flag football.

SOFTBALL

Our oldest program, what is now Capital Area Team Sports was founded in 1995 with the founding of our Carolina Colts men's team.  The Colts today are joined by the Raleigh Red Devils, and both teams participate in the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department's softball program.  In all, CATS-operated teams have captured eight league championships, the most recent being in the Spring 2007 season.
