Needing a win to clinch the fourth and final MLS playoff berth, the Capital City 95'ers took matters into their own hands Thursday night, putting up the most runs in a single game in the history of MLS along with the fourth highest total in the 14 year history of CATS softball, demolishing the Wake County Wombats 31-6. The onslaught began with a top of the first inning that saw the 95'ers send 18 hitters to the plate and seven errors by the Wombats, who found themselves in a 14-0 hole before they would even pick up a bat.

Leadoff hitter Mark Stein set the tone for the team with a fine 5-for-5 performance that included a triple and an inside the park dinger to start the game. Ted Loomis, Nate Beasley, Justin Mann, Dave Guez, Ben Furnas, Mike Hetrick and Jon Benson each added multiple hits toward the team total of 25. Ten total errors by the Wombats - an MLS record that would be tied later in the night - would also prove devastating to the 'Bats hopes of reaching the playoffs.

The 95'ers now advance to the first round of the MLS playoffs, a one-game playoff against the Triangle Shockers next Tuesday night at 6:30. For the Wake County Wombats MLS play ends but their season goes on with an appearance in the Raleigh City Tournament.
