Brantley Ellis jacked a second inning grand slam to power an eight run second inning that gave the Carolina Colts a 13-4 lead, from which the team would cruise to a 23-10 victory over the North State Senators in the regular season finale for both clubs. It was part of a 3-for-5 night for Ellis, who was joined by Kevin Masingale, Brett Maiorano, Steve Marsden, Tony Cappelletti, Rob Alford, Jeff Hedgepeth and Jeff Easterling as Colts with multiple hits on the night. Scott Stephenson powered the 'Nats offense meanwhile by going 3-for-3 from the cleanup slot, but his offensive spark failed to ignite the team on what was a cold night.

The Colts utilized the game as a tune-up for Game 1 of the MLS Championship Series, which will be Tuesday night at 8:30 against an opponent to be determined. The Senators, having been eliminated from MLS postseason contention earlier in the evening, also used the contest to sharpen their skills in preparation for their participation in the Raleigh City Tournament later this month.
